Official Master

The Master in History of science: science, history and society (UAB-UB) is a postgraduate programme that probes into the historical development of science, technology and medicine, considering their theoretical, material, social and institutional aspects. Master courses help students to find their way in the chronology of scientific evolution, and contribute to the development of skills related to historical research through the knowledge of the main historiographical schools.
The Master is a joint academic project of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Universitat de Barcelona, coordinated by the Centre for the History of Science (CEHIC) at the UAB. The Institucio Milà i Fontanals del CSIC and the Museum of the History of Medicine of Catalonia also participates in it. The PhD program to which it belongs merits the Quality Mention of the Ministry of Science and Innovation. As an official Master, it is fully integrated in the European Higher Education Area system of credit transfer. It leads to a degree awarded by both universities that is officially approved throughout the European Union.
The Master offers a general overview of the historical development of science, technology and medicine and promotes the understanding of current relationships between science, culture and society. It is addressed at former students of science and humanities who would like to work in the future in the teaching of history of science at any level, museums, scientific journalism, cultural management or academic research, among other potential professional opportunities.
PhD program distinguished with the Quality Mention of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation since the academic year 2003-2004, renewed during the academic year 2008-2009 until the academic year 2011-2012 (MCD2007-00240).
