The Master in History of science: science, history and society (UAB-UB) is a postgraduate programme that probes into the historical development of science, technology and medicine, considering their theoretical, material, social and institutional aspects. Master courses help students to find their way in the chronology of scientific evolution, and contribute to the development of skills related to historical research through the knowledge of the main historiographical schools.
The master has 60 ECTS (with modules of 15ECTS), which offers the possibility to choose two specializations: research and professional.
The research specialization enables students to take an academic course followed by studies for a PhD in History of Science and/or in-depth research of specific aspects of science, technology and medicine and its social and cultural implications in the past.
The professional specialization enables the student to mainly work in such areas as science communication (teaching and popularization), museology and the management of scientific heritage.
As well as the UAB and UB, the Masters also includes, for the 2010-11 academic year, the collaboration of lecturers from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), the Milà i Fontanals Institution (CSIC) and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), together with prestigious invited scholars from abroad.
The Master is part of a PhD program that has been awarded the Mention of Excellence (MEE2011-0714) of the Spanish Ministry of Education in the 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 school years.
