El Radar de Navegación Marítima en los primeros años del franquismo
Supervisor/s: Xavier Roqué Rodríguez
Date of defense: 10-09-2014

This work studies the development of the radar technology in Spain during the first years of Francoism. The work is focused on the maritime navigation radar as the initial application of this technology and, from here, other further applications are commented. The technical specifications of the prototypes developed by the Instituto Nacional de Electrónica (INE) team, which included a group of German engineers who had worked in the German radar during World War II, are studied from their manuals. The problematic and motivation which drove INE to work on these prototypes are discussed and contextualized with respect to the state of the technology at that time. The essay argues that radar is one of the few examples of the success in technological catch-up during the Francoist regime.
