Àngela Garcia i Lladó
La revista Ciència (1926-1933): Una eina al servei del catalanisme
Supervisor/s: Agustí Nieto-Galan
Date of defense: 04-09-2012

This essay analyses the journal Ciència. Revista de Ciència i Tecnologia, published from 1926 to 1933, as a cultural tool for the Catalan nationalist movement in general, and in particular, for the Catalan scientific movement. It carefully studies the structure, the content and the leading team of the publication, in particular, the role of Ramon Peypoch Pich, as the project leader. Peypoch was a professional scientist with an intense political activity and deeply involved in the creation of several sections of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans.

Through the analysis of Ciència articles, we attempt to show how the journal played an essential role in developing a genuine Catalan science, and replaced some tasks of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans during Primo de Rivera's dictatorship. Ciència also contributed to the formation of a genuine Catalan scientific and technical community during the years of its publication.
