Medicine and social regulation in Spain. Scientific discourses and practices in subaltern social groups (XIXth and XXth Centuries)

Leading researcher: Jorge Molero Mesa
Funding entity: Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia
Duration: 2006 - 2009

The aim of this Project is to offer new contributions to the historical understanding of existing relationships between scientific thinking, medicine and power in metropolitan and colonial Spain during the 19th and 20th centuries. It analyzes medicine and scientific practice as real exponents of hegemonic thinking, as well as the development of alternative knowledge systems by social group not integrated into the liberal-bourgeois system.
